One Last Hurrah: Uhl’s Brewing to Close Up Shop
Uhl’s Brewing Co. was started with the simple idea – to provide some of the best beer and customer service that this little Boulder, Colorado-based team could produce. The totem pole for us had beer as our number one priority, employee satisfaction after that, and customer service would naturally follow. The feedback we have received over the years from our guests has been astounding, and we very much appreciate it. You have been there through it all to remind us why we started. Every interaction has always been positive and welcomed warmly. I believe we have made some amazing beers and created a loyal following of fans near and far. I cannot thank you enough.
We have been spreading our wings this last year and ramping up collaborations with other Colorado breweries. Along the way, we’ve met so many amazing people in the beer industry. The comradery amongst Colorado brewers is top-notch. When you need help, they are always ready. When you need a mentor, they pick up the phone and talk. Solutions to problems are what small business owners and brewers are great at figuring out, especially if we all put our heads together. Thanks to all that have helped us along the way; we were always humbled. That is why it is with heavy hands that I type these words.
Uhl’s Brewing Co. will be closing its doors to the public for the very last time on August 6, 2023, at 7 pm. It is not a light-hearted decision. It weighs heavily on all of us here at Uhl’s because we love the people we work with, the amazing work environment we have created, the beers, and our customers. We have kicked and clawed our way out of so many difficult situations these last three and a half years, which is why it’s hard to accept that the problem presented to our little brewery simply can not be fixed. I can blame it on a pandemic, government assistance that was never provided during the pandemic, and many other things, but there is no reason to dwell on the negatives. Many of you in the local beer community saw me start as an avid homebrewer, become a contract brewer, and then transition into a head brewer. I always said I wanted to open a brewery, and all of you that knew me before this venture heard it at least once out of my mouth. At the end of the day, I did what I said I was going to do. I opened a brewery to share my recipes with everyone. You got to see what I was really about and tasted all the creations along the way.
Celebrate with Us
That being said, we are not going out with one last hurrah! We have pulled out everything from our bottle cellar for sale at the tasting room, available for in-house service or to take home. The 19 barrel-aged offerings are:
- Barrel Aged Fluffernutter
- King Billy (all three barrels)
- Peanut Butter Barrel’d Treat
- Bramble Barrel’d Treat
- Chocolate & Vanilla Barrel’d Treat
- Coffee & Vanilla Barrel’d Treat
- Coconut Barrel’d Treat
- Barrel Aged Maple Harvest
- Vanilla & Cinnamon Barrel’d Treat
- Deep Dark Depths 21, 22, 23
- Deep Dark Depths Antique
- Deep Dark Depths Rye
- Tahitian Vanilla Barrel’d Treat
- CO Beverage Co. Barrel’d Stout
- Old Elk Barrel’d Stout
We’ll be pulling everything out of the keg cellar too, so you might even be able to sample a few of those older projects on draft.
Leading up to our One Last Hurrah on August 5th, we still have plans to make appearances at a couple beer festivals and hope to see you at our booth. We’ll be bringing the heat, so be prepared for Hooplagers at Wibby Brewing on July 22nd and Westy Brewfest on July 29th. We have reached out to a few breweries to get a couple more collaboration projects done with our barrel fleet. So, even though Uhl’s will be closed, there will be some more barrel-aged goodies popping up across the front range for a year or so to come.
One Last Hurrah
For our final weekend, we will have the pleasure of hosting Billy and Jon from the Desert Furs, who will be rocking our little brewery one last time with an acoustic set! The Desert Furs are one of the best psychedelic rock bands based in Boulder, Colorado, and put on quite the show – you won’t want to miss it.
We look forward to connecting with all of you who love Uhl’s Brewing Co. It’s been a long and very unusual slide through what we call reality, but I wouldn’t change a single moment of it. Much love and many thanks for supporting us through the journey. For now, I will be hanging my brewer’s hat up at home and will be looking forward to my next soiree on this journey we call life. At some point I will pick up that hat again and land my next project, but until then, cheers everyone!
Aaron Uhl and the whole team at Uhl’s Brewing Co.
